Rocking You to Sleep from the Otherside

For a couple of years some of my friends and I have been sharing music. We’re supposed to review/rate what gets shared with us, and share those reviews with the group, but that doesn’t always happen.

Queen – II (1974)

Tim shared Queen. Again. I’m not complaining. He’s getting himself ready to go see them + Adam Lambert in a couple of weeks.

I tried to pay attention to the lyrics because I knew I’d love most if not all of the music. And I’m kind of glad I did, Continue reading

Take What They Give You and You Keep it Inside

Some of my friends and I share music with one another while we work. We’re supposed to review/rate what gets shared with us, and share those reviews with the group, but that doesn’t always happen.

Lisa Loeb – Tails (1995)

Tim isn’t known to share (mostly) acoustic singer/songwriter stuff, but here you go. This is something his wife introduced him to and has stuck with him.

She reminds me of an un-politically charged Ani diFranco. Not exactly chill. Obviously passionate. The chords changes and melodic structures aren’t what I’d expect, but the execution is great. Some bands make it sound like their atypical songwriting was a mistake, but her band (Nine Stories) is tight. Continue reading

At Your Most Beautiful

Some of my friends and I share music with one another while we work. We’re supposed to review/rate what gets shared with us, and share those reviews with the group, but that doesn’t always happen.

Charlie Hunter – Everybody Has a Plan Until They Get Punched in the Mouth (2016)

Based on how much I liked his surf-rock Christmas album, I was pretty excited to give this follow up a listen. Continue reading

When You’re Gone, I Grow Colder

For a couple of years, some of my friends and I have been sharing music with one another. We’re supposed to review/rate whatever’s shared with us, but that doesn’t always happen.

The White Stripes – Elephant (2003)

This week Spencer started us of with a kinda weird dude and his sister wife who really know how to rock. Continue reading

If You Don’t Mind Your Mother’s Words a Wicked Wind will Blow

For more than a year, some of my friends and former coworkers have been sharing music. The idea is that we’re supposed to review/rate what’s shared with us, then share those reviews with the group, but that doesn’t always happen.

The Decemberists – The Crane Wife (2006)

I’ve been listening to these guys for a long time, and I really like them. And I think this is their best album. Although I think the album artwork is a little creepy.

I feel like they’re a lot like Arcade Fire, but maybe more acoustic. But both The Decemberists and Arcade Fire are the kind of band I have to mix in with other bands. For something like this it’s fine, because it’s been a while since I’ve listened to just them in one sitting and I’m really focusing on the music, but I think because I’ve been listening to them so much over the past 10+ years, I get a little bored with the just alright stuff. Does that make any sense? Continue reading
